There is a possibility that Volkswagen will introduce a plug-in Golf next year. Based on the MK7 Golf, the plug-in will come with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four cylinder engine rated at 150 horespower and 177 pound feet of torque, this engine can also found in the Jetta Hybrid. The engine will be paired with a 54-horsepower electric motor that is linked to a lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack can be recharged within four hours when plugged into a 240 outlet. Similar to the Chevy Volt, owners who drive short to medium commutes may never use a drop of gas.

Motor Trend has announce the 2014 Subaru Forester as their SUV of the year. According to Motor Trend, the Subaru provides the right balance between people carrying, comfort, sport, utility, and pricing. Subaru knows that owners buy a Subaru because they want to carry their friends and family on a camping trip, take their dogs to the beach, or going skiing in the mountains for a weekend. Subaru designed the Foresters with these people in mind. The interior is designed with more durable material to take continuous beating, it has 8.7 inches of ground to go over the rough stuff. For 2014, the Forester adds newer, more fuel efficient engines, more cargo capacity, a new exterior design, and better interior quality.

The Land Rover Defender has been in production for over 67 years. It has not always been known as the Defender, using previous name plates such as the series I and II. Later being called the Ninety and One Ten. The Defender has been used as a go to Off-road work horse for many militaries, farmers, and civilians and has proven to be one of the best off-road vehicles ever produced. However, Production will be coming to a close in 2015 at Land Lovers factory in Solihull, England. Land Rover was expected to phase out the Defender in 2017, however, due to strict emissions requirements the Defender is not able to be retrofitted to meet new clean air guidelines.

Volvo has finally caught up with the automotive downsizing trend. A lot of automakers are downsizing their engines and including some sort of forced induction system to improve fuel economy and emissions. For a long time Volvo was stuck with a Ford sourced straight six engine and with their aging 5-cylinder unit which delivered subpar fuel economy and performance. Volvo refers to their new tech movement as Drive-E. With Drive-E, Volvo introduces a brand new Twin charged 4-cylinder engine mated to an all new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Porsche’s Macan SUV is expected to makes its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The silhouette of the Macan is similar to the Cayenne but the Macan comes in a much smaller and more fastbacked package than its older sibling. Porsche hopes to lure more customers into the Porsche brand with this new model. Porsche has already found success in its Cayenne SUV with it being the fastest selling Porsche model of all time, more than double that of the 911. Has Porsche created another sales success story? Probably.
