McLaren Honda have released the sound of their new turbocharged 1.6-liter direct injection V6 engine. Due to new Formula 1 regulation, it requires all teams to switch to turbocharged V6 engines paired with an energy recovery system. For several years Formula 1 teams have been using V8 and V10 engines to power their cars. The reason why regulation has changed is to improve the image of Formula 1 racing by being a test bed for environmentally-friendly technology, provides technical and engineering challenges for the teams, and by creating more interesting races.

Mercedes Benz plans to release the replacement to the SLS around the 2016 model year. The SLS replacement is known as the GT AMG and is being designed on the existing SLS platform, keeping the front mid-engine architecture. Mercedes plans to attract a greater audience this time around by creating a car that places a greater emphasis on daily driving and comfort, something the SLS lacked. With this new model Mercedes Benz is targeting Porsche 911, Aston Martin, Audi R8, and the Jaguar F-Type.

Lamborghini is developing a limited run super car name the Veneno. The Veneno will come in coupe and roadster form. In a press release Lamborghini released the first images of the Veneno roadster. The Veneno has out of this world styling resembling more of a spacecraft than automobile. The Roadster’s roof is permanently open, there is nothing to protect the occupants from the elements and the savage sounding Lamborghini V12.

Volvo is working with researchers at Imperial College London on batteries that are integrated into the body panels of vehicles. Together they were able to develop a new material that integrates nano structured batteries and super capacitors together with carbon fiber to create automotive battery body panels.
